Complete refurbishment of a Grade II listed longhouse on Dartmoor.
Woodford Architecture and Interiors were invited to prepare designs for the complete restoration and refurbishment of this Grade II listed longhouse on Dartmoor.
The house is a traditional cross passage style longhouse, and working with Dartmoor National Park we secured listed building approval for the internal and external alterations to the main house and the conversion an adjacent barn to provide a wood turners studio.
The house has many original features and it was important to develop a sensitive design approach that would retain and enhance its existing character. This project demonstrates that with a delicate touch a home can be transformed whilst retaining the patina of age.
This project needed to be completed within a short deadline which required a high-level of pre-planning and on-site organisation. Working directly with the architects and client to achieve a high-quality of finish, we completed a detailed refurbishment working with traditional materials and building techniques to comply with the Grade II listing. The project involved detailed joinery and fine detailing to marry the original elements of the longhouse to the new, modern installations.
The job was completed on time and within budget to the client’s satisfaction.
